Rob rides 111 miles in Honor of his Dad, Harry A. Gerowe, Sr.

For Dad, My Father, My Friend, My Hero!

Hello!

I will be training in 2004 for El Tour de Tucson in honor of my Dad, Harry Gerowe, a cancer survivor from Brookfield, Connecticut. My Dad has agreed to partner with me in a fight to cure cancer and improve the quality of lives of local cancer patients and their families. My Dad will be my inspiration, in addition to many other friends and family whom have both won and lost their fight against cancer over the years. I will be thinking about Dad and my other honored teammates during my training this winter, spring & summer and in November 2004 as I race about 111 miles around Tucson Arizona with some 6,000 other cyclists ranging from beginners to professionals.

I will be doing this as a member of the world’s largest endurance training program and the first endurance training program designed with the purpose to raise money for a non-profit charity: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. More than 75 percent of the first $4,000 we raise together is directed to research and patient services. Over 100 percent of all donations you help us raise over that amount will go directly to the cause! My personal fundraising goal is $10,000. I hope to raise $4,000 by January 15, 2004 and reach the $10,000 goal by Father’s Day, June 20, 2004. The Society has dedicated itself to being one of the top-rated voluntary health agencies in terms of dollars that directly fund our mission. Will you help my Dad & me, and the Society with our mission? You can help us to make a difference!

Each year over 670,000 people are living with a blood cancer. Unfortunately some 64,000 children and adults will not survive each year. Every nine minutes someone dies of a blood cancer. In fact Connecticut has the highest incident rate of non- Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the United States. Leukemia is the leading fatal cancer for children in the world.

Life gives us difficulties to make us bitter. But with faith, and help from friends and family and organizations like The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, we can take those difficulties that life gives us and use them to make us better, not bitter!

My Dad, as many of you know, has had a very difficult year in 2003. But my Dad and me truly believe that God can take a negative and turn it into a positive if we let Him. Please help us turn 2004 into a more positive year for my Dad and cancer survivors and their families.

Please see the enclosed pledge support page and mail a donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 20 Birch Hill Lane, Kent, CT 06757 in support of my ride and in honor of my Dad and in memory of all the loved ones that have been lost, but not forgotten over the years.

Thank you so much for your support! May you, your friends, your co-workers and family have a fun, safe, healthy and happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Rob Gerowe
